Every August, thousands of golfers from around the globe descend upon the Grand Strand for what’s widely recognized as the world’s largest amateur golf tournament—the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship, affectionately known as the World Am.
Now approaching its 41st year in 2025, this iconic event has become a staple of golf culture, offering four days of intense competition, fun, and camaraderie across more than 50 top-tier courses throughout the Myrtle Beach area.
Tournament Format
The World Am is a 72-hole, stroke play tournament, flighted by age, gender, and verified handicap index. It welcomes players of all skill levels, from low single-digit handicaps to beginners just starting their competitive journey.
Each player competes within their flight, and after four rounds, flight winners square off in a Flight Winners Playoff to determine the overall World Champion.
