Modeled after the great links courses of the British Isles, Heathland at Legends Golf Resort offers a wide-open, wind-swept experience unlike most other courses on the Grand Strand. Designed by Tom Doak—one of golf’s most revered modern architects—Heathland is a minimalist masterpiece that prioritizes strategy, creativity, and course management over brute strength.
This is golf the old way: wide fairways, firm turf, natural contours, and infinite shot options.
Course Overview
Heathland trades tree-lined fairways for vast vistas and rolling terrain. Inspired by Scottish and Irish classics like St. Andrews and Lahinch, the course uses natural elevation changes, pot bunkers, and large, fast greens to test your touch. The wind is often a factor here, just like overseas.

The Golfer’s Review
Heathland is a thinking golfer’s course. Every hole gives you room to miss off the tee, but the approaches are tricky, and short-sided misses will leave you scratching your head. I love how it makes you hit creative shots—punches, bump-and-runs, and high soft flops. If you like links-style golf, it’s a must-play. If you’ve never tried it, this is a great introduction without needing a passport.

Heathland at Legends is a refreshing change of pace for golfers who want something different than the tree-lined, water-heavy courses typical of Myrtle Beach. It’s pure golf with room to breathe—and room to think.
Pro Tip: Don’t fear the fairway bunkers—fear the greenside traps. Better to be 10 yards short than 2 feet in the wrong spot.
