Last Thursday was the last Thursday Night Shootout of 2017 at River Oaks Golf Plantation.  On this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand we take a look the fun and festivities had by the 150+ golfers on hand for the season finally of this hugely popular event.  This was such a big night that we had to send The Boss out to play in it.  Don’t worry though, there was ZERO chance of his team winning anything, but there was a high chance of interesting shots and laughs had by the entire group.  Sorry Boss, had to do it!

The Shootouts at River Oaks have really become a favorite event of local and visiting golfers alike.  Every year from the end of spring golf through mid-October River Oaks has become the place to be on Thursday night for golfers in Myrtle Beach.  5:30 is the start time for the weekly 9-hole scramble that consistently fills at 27 holes with 4 person teams.  In addition to the golf, every golfer receives a few free beverages (adult or otherwise) and dinner after golf on the amazing back patio and porch area behind the clubhouse.  There are prizes for the winning teams and raffle prizes every week as well.  Players can win golf apparel, golf balls, dinner certificates to local restaurants and even free rounds of golf.  The value involved in this fun event is amazing considering golfers get all that for $28 a player.  That’s an incredible deal.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting the Thursday Night Shootout now for the last handful of years” said Scott Taylor, PGA Head Professional of River Oaks.  “It has grown so much in the last couple of years that we actually have had to turn people away some weeks because we are completely full!  We have golfers that sign up for the next weeks event while they are here this week to make sure they get their spot.”

There are many local golfers that play in the Shootout every week.  The evening has created some real comradery and competition between some of the teams.  They look forward to play with and against each other each week for bragging rights (and side bets we are sure).

“It is fun seeing a lot of the same guys each week” James told us.  “Many of these guys, this is the only time we see each other is on Thursday nights.”
