Prestwick Country Club is the spot for this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand.  We are always interested in anything that grows the game or improves the game of golf.  It is a hot topic in the industry today and there are all kinds of thoughts and ideas out there as to what is best to help.  We are of the mind set that anything progressive and attempting to be different than the “norm” is good and will help make a difference.

That is what we are checking in on PGA Head Professional, Jay Smith for today.  He and his staff at Prestwick are striving to be apart of growing the game along the Grand Strand.  A major focus in the past year is to bring new golfers to the golf course.  Prestwick made a move from a members club to a fully public facility last year and ever since they have been on a mission to bring new golfers not only to play Prestwick but to play golf period.

The first bit of news is that Jay and his staff will be doing 2 FREE clinics in the fall.  That’s right, get lessons from a PGA professional for FREE.  Pay attention to the Prestwick Facebook page for more information on the dates of the lessons.  The clinics will be open to brand news golfers and veteran golfers alike.  Any golfer looking for instruction is welcome to sign up and attend.

The second announcement is a big one.  Sometime later this fall Prestwick Country Club is going to offer free golf.  Yes FREE GOLF.  On Wednesdays after 2pm golfers will be able to play 9 holes walking for FREE.  Anyone is eligible to do this.  New golfers, juniors and seniors alike are welcome to come play 9 holes after 2pm on Wednesday as long as they walk.  This is a wonderful initiative that is very unique and creative.

“Not much is free in today’s world,” said Jay Smith.  “As long as you have your own clubs we are going to invite you golfers to come out.  Just call and sign up in the golf shop.”

Smith went on to say “It will be a great way to introduce folks to not only Prestwick and our facilities but hopefully to the game of golf itself.”
