On this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand we visit a golf course that is a fun golf course with a very different layout than that of most golf courses along the Grand Strand.  Brick Landing Plantation Golf Course is tucked away along the water in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina and a short drive from the heart of Myrtle Beach.  It offers an unusual layout which gives golfers a scorecard that they probably do not see at any other golf course they play.  It is a par 71, which in and of itself is not a big deal, but it plays 34-37 to get to par 71.

The front nine has three par 3 holes, No.2, No.5 and No.9.  It is not common for a course to have three par 3s on one side.  It is not common for a golf course to end a side with a par 3.  “The Brick” as it is affectionately called does both.  Oh, and the front nine does not come back to the clubhouse either.  The 9th hole finishes across behind the driving range which is across the road from the clubhouse.  All of these make for a memorable layout and fun golf course to play.We focus on playing the 158 yard 9th hole.  The yardage is from the member tees (white tees) as we always look at playing holes from the perspective of the amateur golfer.  From the tee golfers look at the hole and see a small green side bunker to the right and water down the left side which stops just short of the green.  The water does jut in enough that the left part of the green is behind it causing golfers to have to think about it if playing to the left half of hole.  At 158 yards most golfers will need a mid iron to reach the surface.  Long is safe so be sure to take enough club.  The putting surface is longer than it is wide so playing to the middle of the green is the way to go no matter where the pin is.

Once on the putting surface golfers should have a good opportunity to make a putt.  The mostly flat green allows for making a run at birdie.  A good two putt par will make anyone feel good as they finish the first nine and head to the back side.  It is a good hole to finish the different front side.
