Earlier this month on October 2nd, Meadowlands Golf Club played host to the Grand Strand Senior Golf Association (GSSGA) and their monthly golf tournament.  The GSSGA was formed in July 1970 as an informal organization to promote golf along the Grand Strand. It’s members are age 55 and over and they have tournament play 51 weeks a year.  The tournaments rotate through the various member courses and culminate with the league championship the 2nd week of December annually.

On this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand we take a look at the fun and competition that was had at Meadowlands Golf Club and see what some of the players had to say about not only the event but also the golf course and how it played.  Meadowlands has been involved for many years with the GSSGA and the ownership and staff is proud to be a part of this great group of golfes.

With a field of just under 100 players, the tournament started with an 8:30 shotgun start on a great morning for golf.  Seven flights of golfers headed out to take the course and each other to see who would be victorious.

”We absolutely love hosting the GSSGA each time our turn in the rotation comes along” said General Manager, Brad Thompson.  “It is fun to see these guys take on our course and the challenge of competing against each other.  The best part for us is the feedback we get and all the great comments and compliments we get on the conditions of the golf course.”

The low gross score of the day belonged to Bob Abrahamson who shot 77 as he posted best score in Flight No.1.  The low net score went to Dan Collins with a net 61 to help him win low net of Flight No.5.

Dan Collins told us “We really like coming to Meadowlands and playing.  It is always in great shape and the layout is fun and gives us old guys an opportunity to put up some really good scores because it is not too hard.”

”Thanks to the staff and crew for having the golf course in such good shape for us today” said Wayne Zehr.  “The greens putted great today!”
