There will be 2 nine-hole shotguns, both of which tee off with a 9am shotgun start. There will be four hole-in-one prizes up for grabs (2 on each nine). A catered lunch by Middle of the Island is included right after the completion of play. A portion of the proceeds will go to Canine Angels. This local organization rescues dogs from kill-shelters and trains them to aid military veterans. The dogs and their trainer, Rick Kaplan, can regularly be seen on the grounds at Meadowlands training. A demonstration of their abilities will be part of the day’s program.
Meadowlands Golf Club was built by W.J. McLamb on land that his family had owned most of for all of his life. He started construction in 1995 and partnered with famous golf course architect, Willard Byrd. Meadowlands is often described as a parkland style course where freshwater lakes and Shingletree Canal come into play on several holes. It was designed with five sets of tees to better accommodate golfers of all ages and skill levels.
“When I was a child, my grandparents lived in a wooden frame house on what is now Hole 7. They raised eleven children there. I remember lying awake one night when I visited, looking straight through the roof at the stars” reminisced McLamb. “I want golfers to enjoy the beauty of the land and feel the same sense of relaxation and peacefulness that I used to feel as a kid.”
The 20th anniversary has been celebrated by an various golf or dining events each month on or around the 20th of the month. It is management and staff’s year long way to say thank you to members and visiting golfers alike for all the years of play and support.
