On this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand we visit Brick Landing Plantation Golf Club in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Golfers start and finish play along the Intracoastal Waterway looking out into the Atlantic Ocean. The Brick as the course is affectionately called by the locals provides a scenic backdrop as it wind through the plantation homes and the tidal salt marshes. Brick Landing Plantation is a course that golfers will want to experience time and time again.
We take a close look the first hole, because we want to help golfers get off to a good start when they tee it up at The Brick. There is so much to take in when standing on the first tee as it overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway that we felt it is important to help bring focus back to the task at hand. Hitting the first tee shot of the day into a narrow fairway squeezed between the waterway and two small ponds and a sand trap on the left. This par 4 is 352 yards from the white tees. Golfers can use a variety of clubs off the tee to get into the fairway.
The approach shot is a challenge as well. There is a pond that runs up close to the edge of the left hand side of the green. Golfers need to take aim at the right-center of the green and be sure to take enough club to reach the putting surface. The only green side bunker is in the back on the green. We should be looking at at short to mid iron shot to a long and narrow green. This is not a long hole but it does present a challenge right out of the gate to golfers of all ages and ability levels.
Once on the putting surface the good news is that it is relatively flat so we should be able to walk away with no worst than a two-putt. Par is a really good score on this hole and will give a wonderful jump start to a round. Golfers can walk away from the first green with a good feeling and be ready to take on the rest of the golf course.
