On this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand we get a personalized tour of one of the nicest clubhouses on the beach, Prestwick Country Club. Jay Smith,PGA Head Professional at Prestwick, is giving us a walk through tour of this wonderful two-story gem of a clubhouse that boasts as good of a back porch view as there is in the area. He tells us it all starts at the bag drop so we are going to find out today.
Pulling into the parking lot takes golfers directly to the bag drop. Now there usually is nothing exciting about bag drops but this one comes with a view. To the left just behind the bag drop is the beautifully large pond that separates the 9th and 18th holes as they come back to the clubhouse. You don’t get that at most courses. Now it is time to head up the steps and into the golf shop to get checked in.
The first thing golfers will notice when they walk into the golf shop is the huge selection of apparel that jumps out at them the second the door is open. All the biggest name brands in everything from hats to shoes, shorts and pants and golf equipment as well. This is one fully stocked golf shop. Once checked in players need to head down the hall to check out the bar and grill area on the other side. The smallish but full service bar is ready with breakfast before the round and lunch and dinner after the round as well as a few cold beverages to enjoy while sitting in the dining area.
Prestwick has a great private dining area that is just off the regular sitting area. It is available to host luncheons, meetings, dinner parties, wedding receptions and many other events. The seating options make this room very multi-functional and it is quite often booked by local non-golfing groups for lunches and other meetings.
“We host the Surfside Rotary luncheon every Wednesday” Jay said. “We can host as many as 120 people comfortably in this space.”
The best part of the clubhouse probably the back porch. It extends the length of the building and it overlooks the 9th and 18th greens as well as the pond that separates the two holes. It is an absolutely gorgeous view that visitors almost always take pictures of whether it is their first time experiencing it or not. This view is an amazing compliment to the tremendous clubhouse and all that goes on there.
