The main attraction at Rivers Edge Golf Club has always been the par 5 9th hole or “Arnie’s Revenge” as it is affectionately called.  The finishing hole is no slouch either.  On this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand we take a look at the par 4 18th hole and how it has no problem holding its own as an amazing finishing hole on a great golf course.  Golfers rave about the challenge along with the fun that this hole provides as they finish their round.

Standing on the tee box golfers are meet with a breathtaking and intimidateing view of the Shallotte River that runs along the right side of the hole.  Why is it intimidating?  Easy…the hole is a slight dog-leg right that curls along the marshland that runs along side the river.  There are plenty of golf balls that have found their way into that water.  If that isn’t enough, there are condominiums that line the left side of the hole and any balls that make it into the yards there will be O.B.  There is not much room for error off the tee for sure.

From the fairway the view of the green is one that requires a photo op.  To the left of the green is the clubhouse, with is back porch running the length of the building and overlooking the green at the bottom of the hill.  The putting surface is a good 30 yards lower than the fairway and nestled in between the hillside, green side bunkers and the edge of the marsh.  The putting surface itself is quite large but there is no room for error when it comes to wayward shots.  Golfers need to pull the correct club for the distance and make a confident swing to hit the large green.

The stadium like experience golfers receive when the play the 18th hole at Rivers Edge is pretty special.  With golfers that have already finished their round hanging out on the back porch watching the play coming into the green, it gives players the feel of a PGA Tour event.  It is unique experiences like this that makes Rivers Edge Golf Club a must play course for all golfers visiting the Myrtle Beach area.
