Today on this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand we take a trip down to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina to Wachesaw Plantation East.  We catch up with PGA Head Professional, Mike DeLuca on the first tee box as he is waiting to show us how to play the first hole.  We love to help golfers get better with tips about golfing and how to play the golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area.  So we are very excited to have Mike give us playing tips at his course.

Hole No.1 is a 350 yard par 4 from the white tees.  There is water on the left side of the fairway that is not visible from the tee box so it is a little tricky there.  Through the fairway are two bunkers that we need to stay short of as well as trees all along the right side of the fairway.  Mike tells us that the smart play is to play for position off the tee not necessarily distance.  Getting to the fairway somewhere between the 150 marker and the 100 yard disc is the play, so choose a club accordingly.

Once off the tee and in the fairway we are looking at a slightly elevated green with the aforementioned water continuing to run the left side of the hole all the way to the green.  The green is large enough that golfers can feel confident with hitting it with a short to mid iron in hand.  Take a deep breath and put a good swing on it and be happy to be on the green in two.

Now that we have reached the putting surface it is all about making the putt!  Mike has one tip…do not leave the birdie putt short, but be sure to make sure to at worst get the two putt par.  Either way this is a great way to start a round of golf on a really good golf hole.  Hopefully this leads to a good round of golf with some low numbers on the scorecard.

Sometimes golfers would like to just be able to grip it and rip it off the first tee but No.1 at Wachesaw East makes golfers think a little right out to the gate without being too difficult a hole overall.  A great combination for a starting hole.  It also is a good preview of what is yet to come on the rest of this Clyde Johnston classic design.
